Shawn Shearer - that’s me. I edit, proofread, and write SEO content, articles and things like that. I’m a seasoned award-winning ex-sports journalist and columnist. I’m also a published poet.

But, first I was a professional musician for nearly 20 years. Yeah, I won lots of music awards, too. Playing with the likes of the Utah Symphony Orchestra, the Boise State Faculty Brass Quintet, and the Boise Philharmonic, the 1984 International Olympic All-American Marching Band, and many, many other professional groups of all kinds.

And being a trumpet player, who are known for their notorious egos, I think I’ve restrained myself quite well. I still play around. Pure musicians can never quite be anything else inside.

After 20 years in the music biz, I thought I’d better start paying homage to my love of words that were threatening to take me behind some library’s dirty alley and beat me letter-less.

So, I did some stints with a couple newspapers starting with business profiling, county board meetings, school board meetings, cooking features, event features, and some people features. That was all in Virginia. Then I went to Georgia and started writing about everything sports and did an adventure column for a while.

Really liked the column, got to do stuff like whitewater rafting, horseback riding, mountains biking, rappelling, hiking, and that sort of thing. A new adventure every week. That was cool. The rest of it, well, there’s good and bad things about being a journalist. Even though I was good enough to win some first and second place awards from the Georgia Press Association, I couldn’t see myself maintaining the kind of snoopability needed to be a great journalist.

I enjoy writing, creating ways to convey feelings, images, and colors of ourselves. And it’s overdue for me to share my imagination. My mother once told me that by not sharing my writing, I was withholding my gifts from the world. So, OK. Better listen to my mom.

This is my play site. Where I get to write about whatever is on my mind. Stories that keep niggling at my dreams. Poems that trickle out of my subconscious. True life events that are begging to be told. Thoughts that are better erupted on a page than through my mouth.

Enjoy. Tell me what you like or dislike. We all have different tastes and I tend to like to cook, so word ingredients are bound to change without notice and maybe even without noticing.

Happy Hunting … no, I mean Happy Hounding … Paddy cake, paddy cake, baker’s woman … hmmm. Maybe I should just say Happy Perusing Party to you …

Peace!
